The new game “Street Fighter 5” recently added three characters never seen before in the franchise. There will be 16 characters total upon launch.

Game Spot reported that news of the three new characters was shared by Matt Dahlgren, brand director of “Street Fighter V”, at the GameStop Expo in Las Vegas on September 2, 2015.

Dahlgren mentioned that there will be 16 playable characters in all when the game releases. Eight are classic fighters that were already featured in previous versions of the franchise such as Ryu, Ken, M. Bison and Chun-Li. Four characters will be familiar to some gamers, although they may not have appeared in “Street Fighter” versions for a long time, namely Nash and Rainbow Mika. The last four characters are completely new.

The first revealed was Necalli, described as having big hair and using a slashing approach during battles. Game Spot wrote that the new fighter was first shown in a trailer during the Evolution Championship Series in July 2015. His fighting style includes ground-and-pound, slashes and a V-Trigger move that changes his long hair into a monstrous bright red form.

The three other new characters is said to be introduced in the coming months up to the official launch of “Street Fighter 5” in March 2016. Capcom also intends to add more characters after the official release. They will be available via DLC.

Other confirmed fighters that will be present in the upcoming title include Cammy, Charlie, Birdie and Vega, based on another Game Spot report.

“The roster discussion is probably the most intense one internally before the game comes out,” Dahlgren said at the GameStop Expo. He added that Capcom talked to game experts and started a fan poll to determine the characters that players wanted to play. There will most likely be more traditional characters provided upon popular demand.

"The end result is really going to be a roster that's unlike Street Fighter 4. It's got its own unique flavor to it. And if your character didn't make it in now, we are going to be revealing post-launch characters,” he continued.

“Street Fighter 5” is scheduled to release in the spring of 2016 for Playstation 4 and PC. Capcom previously introduced several costumes which will be exclusive only to those who preorder the game. There will also be a special edition of the game, which will cost $100.

More news and details about the new “Street Fighter 5” characters are expected soon.
