For those fixated on Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft's race to create the best tablet ever, Lenovo's slate launch apparently seem to come straight out of nowhere and from the left field. And it appears to be a dead ringer for the Surface Pro.

"Lenovo calls its new Ideapad Miix 700'"recognizably different' with a 'progressive design,' but it's hard to see it as anything but a Microsoft Surface clone," The Verge observed. "Designed with Windows 10 in mind, the Miix 700 is a 12-inch tablet with an adjustable kickstand at the rear."

The tablet-slash-laptop's kickstand started the Surface Pro associations as it looks similar to that of Microsoft's slate, although it "doesn't seem to resist as well as Microsoft's tablet or feel as sturdy and strong." However, it's been said to be thicker than that of the Surface.

"There's even a stylus that attaches to a spare USB port. With the kickstand, keyboard, and stylus in place, it's hard to tell the Miix 700 and Surface Pro 3 apart. We've seen Surface clones before, but not by the world's biggest PC maker," The Verge said further.

Indeed, many, if not all, reviewers of Lenovo's newest tablet release agree on this point - the Miix 700 is a Surface clone. Too bad Lenovo beat Microsoft to the Skylake-equipped gadget race as the new slate has the latest Skylake chip.

"The new Core m line cut power usage substantially. They default to a 4.5W draw, though they can be configured up to 7W or down to 3.5W," Ars Technica said. "These processors are partnered with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD storage."

"The top-end screen has a 2160×1440 resolution. It matches the Surface Pro 3's thickness (0.35 inches) and width (11.49 inches), though it is ever so slightly taller at 8.27 inches and a hair lighter (1.7 lbs, to Surface Pro 3's 1.76)," the site added.

The tablet has 5MP front and rear cameras, and can be used with a RealSense 3D camera. With the latter option, you can log onto Windows 10 "using just your face," Engadget reported.

"The MIIX 700 has two USB ports (one USB 3, one USB 2), and offers Micro-HDMI for external monitors (instead of DisplayPort). It also supports optional integrated LTE," Ars Technica also said.

The MIIX 700 will start shipping this November and will start at $699.

Considering all these features, it appears Lenovo's new tablet will give Microsoft a run for its money. While it may arguably be a better option than the Surface Pro 3 price-wise, there's speculation that the Pro 4 may edge out the MIIX 700 just a bit. What do you think?
