The master of horror has died at 76. Wes Craven was known for his numerous slasher flicks that haunted your dreams or nightmares on Elm Street, rather.

The filmmaker passed away after battling brain cancer. He reportedly, died at his home in Los Angeles.

Wes Craven's filmography is a long one. The renowned filmmaker's name became a staple in the scary film community after making popular flicks like "The Last House on The Left," "Nightmare on Elm Street," and the "Scream" series.

Neve Campbell, who played Sidney Prescott, in the "Scream" films released a statement Monday, expressing her condolences for the family, while thanking the filmmaker for launching her career.

"We lost a great deal of magic yesterday. I'm devastated to hear of Wes's passing. My life wouldn't be what it is without him. I will be forever grateful for his brilliant direction, his wicked sense of humor and his consummate kindness and friendship. He has entertained us all for decades and inspired so many to follow in his path. I loved Wes dearly and will miss him always."

"Scream" was one of Craven's films that portrayed not only his craft of building fear, but displaying his sense of humor. Although he is gone, his spirit will live through some of his most memorable quotes surrounding filmmaking and a topic he is all too familiar with, fear, thanks to Parade.
