Recently, a Nexus 8 tablet model was rumored to be in the works and is reportedly bound to be released soon. The first leaks were shown by the Geekbench 3 benchmark testing website, although nothing has really been confirmed to date.

Phone Arena reported that the device is said to run on an octa-core 1.3GHz CPU, which may be a MediaTekSoC, and the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop although the device was running on the Android Lollipop during the benchmark test, many expect that the Nexus 8 will run on the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow when it finally launches. The tablet will most likely feature an 8-inch screen.

Recently, new images of a device alleged to be the Nexus 8 came out on Chinese website Padnews. The new photos presented a tablet with an all-metal construction, although it is still unknown which company will be making the new device. The Nexus 7 and second-generation Nexus 7 were made by Asus previously. The Nexus 9 was made by HTC, while the Nexus 10 was made by Samsung. There are two versions of the Nexus 5 (2015), which are rumored to be made by LG and Huawei respectively. A Nexus 8 is expected to release in the second half of October 2015, together with or after the Nexus 5 (2015), Phone Arena also revealed.

An update revealed that the latest image of the supposed Nexus 8 tablet was a dummy. The length as measured by a ruler in the photo, outlines that 8-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 4:3.

Android Police wrote that there are talks that Colorfly might be the tasked to make the Nexus 8 tablet. Colorfly is a European company that imports cheap whitebox Android Tablets. The recent Geekbench screenshot was said to feature the Nexus 8 operating on a Colorfly Hero motherboard. On the image, the area where a brand label should be shown was either digitally removed or covered. The Geekbench image showed an invalid build number – “JH3CN0”, as well as a “J” at the start of the string which would state Jelly Bean, not Lollipop There is a possibility that the recent images were faked, so users should take the recent updates with a grain of salt.

There is still a chance that Google might actually release a Nexus 8 tablet before 2015 ends, or it could happen early next year. However, the new images may not actually refer to the real device, but another China-made tablet set for local release and whitebox distribution. More updates are expected to revealed soon.
