After months of neverending rumors, it's refreshing to actually get an official update from the iPhone maker itself.

On Thursday, Apple announced a media event scheduled on September 9th this year at San Francisco, California's Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

Although no other details have been given for the "invitation-only event," it's widely understood that the company may be unveiling its latest smartphone offerings, as well as a new Apple TV, as Mashable noted.

"The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium is a new venue for Apple," the tech news source observed. "Historically, the company holds iPhone events at Moscone West or at its campus in Cupertino. The auditorium has a capacity of 7,000 people."

This venue choice is interesting as it has the most capacity compared to other locations used in previous years. Could the company be presenting something really special this year? Or is inviting more attendees its way of combating aggressive efforts of its rivals to hype up their respective mobile products?

"Typically, the company launches its products at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, which holds 757 attendees," Mashable went on. "The Flint Center, where Apple held its 2014 event, holds up to 2,405. Upping the capacity to 7,000 people implies Apple has something extra planned."

And that "extra" may involve Siri. Why else would Apple use the "Hey Siri, give us a hint" clue if it wasn't?

Some pundits have speculated that Siri may have something to do with the new Apple TV, as well as the watchOS 2.0.

The September event had long been predicted and anticipated, as Apple typically arranges its product launchings in the month mentioned. Looks like the revelation of the talked-about iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus is just around the corner.

"The new smartphones are expected to be powered by a faster A9 processor alongside 2GB of RAM. Rumors also indicate we'll see a 12-megapixel rear camera to replace the existing 8-megapixel unit and well as Force Touch integration, the pressure-sensing technology used on the Apple Watch," Techspot said.

As is its habit, Apple has not confirmed such rumors or made previous announcements on what the upcoming handsets would be like. As Siri isn't also giving any such hints, even with repeated requests, we'll have to wait until one and a half weeks from now to know for sure. Or maybe pester Siri daily until the most-awaited day finally arrives.
