Fans were baffled as to what has happened to Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) after the fourth season finale of "Homeland". With the new trailer out for "Homeland" season 5, what will happen to Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and Quinn's relationship?

A short recap, according to International Business Times, revealed that Rupert's character went missing after Carrie refused his request to leave the CIA and live a normal life together. The female agent then went to Dar Adal, portrayed by F. Murray Abraham, to question him about Quinn's whereabouts. With Adal's loyalty to the CIA known to be questionable, he revealed Quinn's location to be either in Syria or Iraq in a rather vague manner.

A teaser by Friend on the show's YouTube channel called "Homeland" revealed that he is in the "deepest, darkest" part of Syria. Furthermore, the actor disclosed that he is teaming up with Saul Berenson, played by Mandy Patinkin.

"Quinn and Saul have struck up a very special friendship," Friend said on the trailer. "It's a bond that no one else can know about. I think, at this point, that suits Quinn very well." Patinkin added regarding their relationship that "there is no one on this planet that Saul would put more trust and faith in than Peter Quinn."

As for Peter and Carrie's romantic relationship, fans should not expect too much of it, according to TV Guide. Further on, the report stated that Quinn will not be in the mood for any romance due to the time he has spent in Iraq and Syria, leading a Special Forces team and whatnot.

In addition, the report revealed that there will be changes along the way for Claire Danes' character. Executive producer Alex Gansa told TV Guide that "Carrie really isn't an intelligence officer this season." Gansa added that "She's definitely rejected her past. She is trying to find a way to forgive herself for all the stuff that she's done throughout her career, and she's begun to question if any of it made any difference at all --whether she made any significant difference in the world. We actually find her doing something almost 180 degrees opposite to what she was doing in the CIA."

The executive producer further noted that when it comes to Carrie and Peter's relationship, it is all about timing. Sadly, her timing was 12 hours off.

"Homeland" season 5 will be set two years after the events of the previous season. The show will air on Sunday, October 4, only on Showtime.
