There are rumors that Samsung is developing a huge 18.4-inch tablet. If it launches, the device will feature one of the biggest displayson a tablet yet.

Sam Mobile reported that the Korean tech company is working on a new Android tablet that has a giant 18.4-inch TFT screen and a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Some people doubted the resolution, although it might be a way to keep costs low, CNet cited. The tablet has the codename “Tahoe” and model number SM-T670 and is said to be geared towards offices, schools and homes. There is no news yet on what the final name of the product will be at launch.

The new tablet is said to run on the Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. It will have an octa-core 64-bit 1.6GHz Exynos 7580 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot that can support up to 128GB cards and a 5,700mAh battery. The device may also feature an 8-megapixel main camera and a 2.1-megapixel secondary camera. The tablet will allegedly measure 451.8mm x 275.8mm x 11.9mm, based on the same exclusive report by Sam Mobile.

PC Mag wrote that Samsung has not yet confirmed whether the scaled-up version will ever enter production. However, a report from the company hinted that they are actually planning to make it available in the future. Users will have to take the specifications and release details with a pinch of salt. There is no official launch date from Samsung at the moment but some speculate that it will be sometime in 2016.

Samsung is not actually the first company to feature a giant screen on a tablet. Fuhu, an expert maker of kids’ tablets, unveiled the 20-inch Nabi Big Tab in 2014. The device was supposed to make tablet play more interactive. Earlier in 2015, Fuhu also featured a 65-inch device. Although many referred to it as the largest tablet ever, the product was more of an Android-based HDTV, PC Mag also stated. Panasonic also introduced that Toughpad 4K Performance, which had a 20-inch 4K display and rugged construction.

More news and details about the specifications and launch date of the 18.4-inch Samsung tablet are expected soon. There might be more information at IFA 2015 in Berlin. Recently, the company was also said to be working on a 12-inch Windows 10 tablet. There might be a number of interesting devices to look out for before 2015 ends.
