The Microsoft Surface Mobile is said to be the company’s next flagship smartphone. The new device packs a lot of powerful features that may help Microsoft get a bigger share in the smartphone market.

Phone Arena wrote that the new flagship smartphone model, codenamed Juggernaut Alpha, will surface soon and be eventually called the Microsoft Surface Mobile. The Juggernaut Alpha was initially mentioned in 2012, which hinted that Microsoft had plans to come up with a Surface phone before acquiring the Nokia Lumia brand and technology. A lot of huge changes are evident compare to the 2012 project, but many users predict that the new device will be called Surface Mobile. This model will different from the Lumia branding developed from the past several years.

The Microsoft Surface Mobile is said to feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED QHD display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560, protected by ClearBlack Gorilla Glass 4. The unit will be powered by the 64-bit Intel Atom x3 (SoFIA) and will have up to 4GB of RAM. There might be a lower-end version with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone may have 64GB and 128GB internal storage options, expandable up to 256GB via MicroSD card. The device may run on the Windows 10 Mobile out of the box. It will also have a 21-megapixel PureView Zeiss 6-lens rear camera and an 8-megapixel Zeiss Wide-Angle front camera. The Surface Mobile will have an aluminium and magnesium unibody and feature wireless charging and USB Type-C support. It may also come with the new Surface Pen, based on a report by WMPowerUser.

Based on the provided specifications, the Microsoft Surface Mobile will be more powerful compared to the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, referred to as Talkman and Cityman respectively. Based on another Phone Arena report, Microsoft will skip a flagship Lumia generation and move straight from the current Lumia 930 directly to Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The two devices will feature slim metal bodies, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD card, a 20-megapixel front camera and a 5-megapixel rear camera. The Lumia 950 will have a 5.2-inch screen and a Snapdragon 808 chipset, while the Lumia 950 XL will have a 5.7-inch display and a Snapdragon 810 chipset. The Talkman and Cityman will be released in October 2015.

The Surface Mobile is rumored to release either late in 2015 or early in 2016. More news and updates on the Microsoft Surface Mobile are expected in the following months.
