Would you buy underwear that can protect your intimate area from the damaging effects of radiation?

British inventor Joseph Perkins has created a new line of underwear for men that "supposedly protects your unmentionables from 99.9% of electromagnetic radiation," Time reported.

Wireless Armour, the special line of "anti-radiation pants," is "made from a fabric called RadiaText, which is a blend of cotton and silver."

As silver is an excellent electricity conductor, it can serve as a shield against the radiation.

"The blend makes it both soft and strong, and the silver makes the underwear 'highly anti-microbial,' ergo more hygienic," Time noted.

There has been research done on the effect of mobile phones on fertility. A study led by the University of Exeter's Dr. Fiona Mathews found that there was an average of 8% less sperm movement when there was exposure to such gadgets, MailOnline said.

A study featured on Wireless Armour's website "showed that radiation emitted from WiFi devices, like the smartphone in your pocket or the computer on your lap, killed 1/4 of the sperm sample after just 4 hours of exposure," Time relayed. Such a finding apparently made the case for the Wireless Armour line a compelling and appealing one for those looking to preserve their fertility.

"Wireless Armour is designed to protect the health of a wireless generation glued to their mobile devices," Perkins reportedly said, as noted by MailOnline.

"We are exposing ourselves to unprecedented levels of electromagnetic radiation and this is showing with our declining sperm counts and increasing cases of cancer," he went on.

"Although the evidence is not conclusive, it is piling up. Our goal is to make protection as easy as getting dressed!" he concluded.

The underpants come in tight or loose-fitting variants, as well as a 360 model, which shields radiation in the front and the back, and an 180 model that only provides radiation protection only on the front.

This, however, is not enough to deflect the ongoing debate regarding the effect of of radiation exposure on male fertility.

"There has been concern for some time about whether keeping a mobile phone in a trouser pocket might affect semen quality and male fertility in some way," Dr. Allan Pace of Sheffield University told the BBC.

"There have been some crazy and alarming headlines, but, in my opinion, the studies undertaken to date have been somewhat limited in scope because they have either irradiated sperm kept in a dish or they have made assessments of men's phone habits without adequately controlling for confounding variables, such as other aspects of their lifestyle," he said.

"What we need are some properly designed epidemiological studies where mobile phone use is considered alongside other other lifestyle habits."

With that considered, would you still get a Wireless Armour?
