Xbox One Offers Backward Compatibility with Xbox 360

Xbox One now offers backward compatibility with Xbox 360, meaning players who have invested in buying the Xbox 360 content can now play them on Xbox One. According to Gamespot, it is not the only content on the Xbox 360 that may be available, but also other games that were originally downloadable in the platform. While there is no confirmation which games will be available, publishers who will allow their games to be downloaded will be made available in the platform. In a statement made by Phil Spencer, Microsoft's Xbox boss, he assured everyone that they are doing all the necessary work to make sure the compatibility test will pass and that Xbox 360 will work "as expected".

During the E3 press conference held last June, Microsoft made the announcement of incorporating Xbox 360 games to Xbox One in order to keep the player's hard earned investment on their 360 DLC contents. At the Gamescom held recently, Microsoft revealed that the backward compatibility will be made available to all its users by November 2015. Prior to the announcement, the backward compatibility feature was only available to "Xbox One Preview Program" members, but now the company aims to cover everyone that's still in the 360 DLC platform.

Gamespot was not able to get the full list of the games available, but Xbox.com  a list of some of the confirmed games that will be under the backward compatibility feature. Halo, Mass Effect and Perfect Dark: Zero is just a few of the confirmed games made available on the platform. Xbox also added new titles such as the Gears of War and Shado Complex. In a Twitter response from Xbox Support to answer a question whether DLC from 360 games can be transferred to Xbox One on the backward compatibility, Xbox said that, while their consoles allow everything to be transferred, only those games that have been allowed by its publishers will be able to make it to Xbox One.

At least 28 games have been confirmed by Gamespot to join the backward compatibility which includes the aforementioned Gears of War with plans of putting Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 and gears of War: Judgement among the list. The series could go on once publishers decide to put their game on the Xbox feature. The backward compatibility of the Xbox One is completely free and players will not need to make an online purchase to avail of the said feature.
