The action continued in Liga MX, as the third week of the Apertura produced some great goals, fascinating results and signs of potential glory and of disaster.

As Morelia continue to stake their claim as serious contenders this season big names like Tigres and Santos Laguna look to be struggling in the precious early scramble for points.

Morelia are no doubt the headline makers. Having gained a hard fought 1-0 victory away at Toluca, the side that struggled so desperately last season have already equaled their total wins in all of last year's Clausura.

Morelia last gained three wins in their opening three fixtures in 2010, but La Monarquia will be hoping to better that season as their hopes of the post-season faded after only being able to claim two more victories through the remainder of the campaign.

This time round, however, the team from Michoacan are showing that they are more resolute and better prepared for the challenges to come as their impressive defense has not conceded a single goal, this is especially impressive as two of their three matches so far have been away from the Estadio Morelos.

As much as Morelia are making headlines for the right reasons at the other end of the table supposed big teams, like reigning champions Santos Laguna and UANL Tigres, are continuing the struggle.

Santos struggled in a morale-sapping defeat to Tijuana on Friday night having looked like the better team for much of the game.

Having dominated the match possession and shots total as well as having two goals ruled out by the officials, Los Guerreros must be feeling like they are destined for a tough season.

This prospect will only be made clearer by the fact that their next opponents will be Queretaro, America and Monterrey.

For Tigres the disappointment of their Copa Libertadores final defeat has not been put right as, despite taking a two goal lead, they collapsed in the late stages against Chivas to concede two goals and keep the Monterrey side in the lower reaches of the league.

Coach Ricardo Ferretti will be looking for his star names to divert their attentions from their Libertadores heartbreak and fire his side to the post-season.

If indeed Ferretti himself is not swept away by the Mexican FA to be the boss of the national team.

The weekend also saw the start of a potential resurgence from Cruz Azul who against Leon showed signs of their former selves.

La Maqunia fans will have enjoyed their team's attractive football and be hoping that they can keep it up in midweek as they face Chiapas.

Look out for a full fixture list midweek with all sides returning to action.
