One of this year's most shocking news was Zayn Malik's departure from the biggest boyband in the world right now, One Direction. In the wake of the group trimming down to 4 members, a number of rumors have arisen regarding Malik's replacement - or if he is going to be replaced at all.
Recently, "High School Musical" alum Zac Efron's name has popped up as potential addition to the boyband. Considering his looks and musical capabilities, it isn't a surprise that the actor has figured in One Direction rumors. And with the recent release of "Drag Me Down" and fans discovering that his old "High School Musical" moves appear to be just right for the track, it looks like the rally for Zac to join 1D isn't about to end soon, even though the band doesn't appear to be looking for another performer to join the group.
"It turns out that these two Popular Culture Phenomena might have a lot more in common than we thought," E! News obseved. "In fact, we'd go so far as to say that one Zac Efron may have actually been the secret original member of One Direction...years before the band was even a twinkle in their parents' eyes."

Interestingly, back in 2012, the "Neighbors" star revealed in an interview that he actually likes One Direction.
When asked what advice he would give the boys, the actor said that the boys probably don't need his advice as "they know what they're doing" as they're "smart kids."
He did say, though, that they should "have fun, cherish this moment - it's super fun - and I would say keep their heads screwed on straight."

In other news, there have been rumors of former One Direction member Malik returning to the fold after splitting from fiancee Perrie Edwards about 2 weeks ago. After all, it has been suspected that his former ladylove was a significant factor in his departure, which happened within days after a photo of him an another blonde woman surfaced.
"Now that Zayn is without a band and without a woman he has a lot more time to think about things in life and his career and some friends have told him to go back to 1D, but that isn't going to happen," a source told Hollywood Life. "He's left and he will not come back on a consistent basis at all but the consideration of one offs is now a possibility."
"But even with those possibilities I wouldn't hold my breath!" the insider added.
