The next installment in the Tom Clancy gaming series may make its debut on next generation consoles.

According to VG247, Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Patriots is currently in development and could be released alongside one of the upcoming next-gen systems.

The announcement was made by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot during an interview with Polygon in which he divulged information on the upcoming title.

"The only thing I can say is that we have a good team working on it, and it's really looking good. So when it will come, it will surprise the industry," said Guillemot. When pressed further on whether the game would be featured on upcoming consoles, he added that "there's a good chance it can be."

Guillemot is the latest in a long line of Ubisoft personnel who have hinted at the same notion. When IGN interviewed Ubisoft senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key and asked about the title being released for upcoming consoles he stated that "This is the only generation I know about, so I would assume yes."

Little information has been given about the title except that it is set in New York City and will focus on a new terrorist group known as the "True Patriots."

The Rainbow Six video game series started back in 1998 and has spanned over a number of installments and expansion packs on both consoles and PCs. The last title Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard was released in 2011 for the Android and iOS enabled mobile devices. The last time the series was on a home console was back in 2008 when Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 debuted on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
