Fans love the idea of a crossover especially when it involves a beloved artist from a very popular television show who will be making an appearance on another show of equal reputation. Confirmed last March, Maisie Williams will guest star on the ninth season of BBC's hit science-fiction television show, "Doctor Who."
According to Yahoo TV, Williams will appear on two episodes of "Doctor Who" Season 9 - "The Girl Who Died" and "The Woman Who Lived." Her role remains a mystery as Williams' first image on the show was merely a publicity shot, with nothing indicative of her character.
Williams is well-known as Arya Stark on HBO's fantasy drama, "Game of Thrones." According to Steven Moffat's statement on Friday at a TV critics panel, via Associated Press, Williams' role on the show will be different. Moffats said, "If people are hugely associated with a much-loved show, then it's good to have them on your show. The audience is clever. They know you're playing somebody else." The showrunner further added that once viewers see what she's up to, they will appreciate what a clever idea it was and it'll take fans a moment or two to figure out what is going on.
Meanwhile, some reports are skeptical about Moffat's statements. In a separate report by Associated Press, the showrunner's move is identical to JJ Abram's refusal to admit that Khan will be on the movie "Star Trek Into Darkness." The report further stated that Moffat's words should be taken with a grain of salt; yet there's a slight possibility that the showrunner is actually telling the truth about Williams being a new character.
Ever since Williams' guest role on the show was confirmed last March, fans' speculations viciously spread. Even more so when her interaction with The Doctor on BBC's official trailer for "Doctor Who" showed some familiarity.
Previous theories of Williams' role on the show stated that she could play young Missy. Another theory stated that she might portray River Song. The Doctor's daughter, Jenny, might be a candidate since her fate has yet to be resolved. Susan Foreman is another candidate.
Assuming that Moffat isn't pulling anyone's leg, Williams' character will be new to the series. More theories will rise as the premiere of "Doctor Who" Season 9 draws nearer.
