While Warner Bros Studio is still in the developmental stage for a sequel to its own "Godzilla" sequel, the original studio which brought the king of monsters to the big screen, Toho, is making a new film set to debut next year.

Toho is reportedly set to start filming Godzilla's new movie by the end of the month. August Ragone (who wrote "Eiji Tsuburaya: The Master of Monsters") claims that one of his sources inside Toho said that Godzilla is due for a "retro" design. Ragone claims that Toho is looking to make Godzilla look more like his original 1954 design.

According to Variety, the Japanese studio has also chosen two co-directors for the latest version of Godzilla. Shinji Higuchi and Hidaeki Anno, who are best known for their work on "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and the live action version of "Attack on Titan," have been tapped to direct. In a statement made by the co-directors to the media outlet, they indicated that the popularity of Godzilla has grown once again with the release of the latest Hollywood film. The co-directors claim that it was but a matter of time before Toho would release another Godzilla film.

The Good, the Bad, and Godzilla states that Toho will be utilizing more CGI rather than the iconic man suits that had been more popular during the 1950s through the 1980s to portray the iconic giant reptile. However, little has been revealed about the plot of the new film but open casting for extras have been sent out in the Kanto area.

Ragone also states that this new Godzilla film will be more frightening than his previous versions, so fans can only speculate what Toho has in mind for the character. He also revealed that he has talked to Anno about the script, sharing that the final draft was already sent in last year and pre-production has started.

This film isn't the first made by Toho in response to a Hollywood Film. Variety disclosed that Toho bought the rights to the first American "Godzilla" film made by Legendary Pictures and went on to rename the creature that appeared in that movie as "Zilla." Apparently, the Japanese Studio was so disappointed of the film that they had their Godzilla fight its American incarnation and promptly had it killed, with Godzilla smashing Zilla into the Sydney Opera House.

With the supposed new look of the King of Monsters, it is yet unknown if Godzilla will keep any of the numerous upgraded powers he managed to obtain over the decades.
