The Google Glass is rumored to be back after previously being retired by the tech company in January 2015. There are talks that a commercial version is currently in development.

Wall Street Journal reported that Google is planning to bring the device to energy, healthcare and manufacturing industries, as well as in other workplaces, by the fall of 2015.

9to5Google revealed that the upcoming device will not be called “Google Glass 2.0”, as previously believed, but Google Glass “Enterprise Edition” or “EE”.

Tony Fadell and the company explained that the new device will not differ much from the “Explorer Edition”. There have been a number of adjustments and tweaks made on the exterior and specs.

The product can fold like a standard pair of glasses, but with a more rugged appearance, to better fit the workplace.

Wall Street Journal stated that the new Google Glass will also feature an improved battery and a more powerful processor.

The original Google Glass was launched limitedly in 2013 as a headset that came with a small screen, overlying graphics on the user’s field of view. The device also had a camera.

The program was stopped by Google without a full consumer product being launched.

“The thing that we did not do well, that was closer to a failure, is that we allowed and sometimes encouraged too much attention to the program,” Astro Teller of Google previously stated in a Daily Dot report.

The new version of Google Glass features a new kind of Glass. All the computer hardware are found on the right side of the product, similar to the Explorer Edition.

A prism is found in front of the right eye and has a band that goes around the forehead and left ear. The new mechanism lets the Glass fold down and there is a hinge to fold down the left side of the band.

The more rugged look allows the product to tolerate drops and bumps better, as expected in offices.

There are also rumors that the new product is more resistant to water.

The overall appearance has been adjusted by Google to fit workplaces better, the focus being more on function than style, 9to5Google wrote.

The new product is also said to feature a bigger prism display for enhanced viewing. The device runs on an Intel Atom processor and heat management has been improved as well. There may be fewer ports and buttons, too.

The company is planning to distribute the new Google Glass exclusively via its certified Glass for Work partners.
