There are talks that “Edge of Tomorrow 2” is in development, and Tom Cruise is rumored to reprise his role in the action film.

Based on a report by MTV, Cruise revealed that he already talked about a possible sequel to the 2014 sci-fi action movie “Edge of Tomorrow” with Doug Liman, the original director of the film and Christopher McQuarrie, the original writer.

“I pitched it to [“Rogue Nation” director and “Edge of Tomorrow” screenwriter Christopher] McQuarrie and [“Edge of Tomorrow” director] Doug [Liman]. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it,” the “Mission Impossible” star said.

“It could be so much fun. Gotta get Emily [Blunt]. I was like Emily, please. She was like, ’give me another year, please,’” Cruise added.

Cruise did not divulge information about the plot of “Edge of Tomorrow 2”, but it will most likely depart from the sequel of the illustrated Japanese novel that the original movie was based on.

The manga series was entitled, “All You Need Is Kill”.

Screen Rant wrote that in the first movie, Cruise starred together with Emily Blunt, who took on the role of Rita Vrataski.

“Edge of Tomorrow” had a controversial ending, so viewers are still looking forward to how the next installment might unravel.

The first movie did not do well at the U.S. box office, although it raked in $369 million worldwide, which may be enough to convince Warner Bros. to create a follow-up.

“Edge of Tomorrow” featured the tagline, “Live. Die. Repeat.” Metacritic wrote that Cruise played the role of Lt. Col. Bill Cage, a military officer who never fought in combat but was suddenly assigned to a suicide mission.

He was killed in battle within minutes of deployment, but discovered that he was placed into a time loop. He had to relive the scenes again and kept dying and resetting. He subsequently learned that every repeated action will bring him closer to the enemy and source of it all.

The film received mostly positive reviews from critics and fans.

Collider stated that the sequel can present ideas that were untouched in the first film. The story may feature a different aspect, considering rumors that it will depart from the novels.

In the meantime, fans will have to await official confirmation from Cruise or Warner Bros. regarding a potential second movie.
