As parents, you want to be with your children for longer periods of time. Sadly, with the rising cost of living these days, the opposite tends to happen.

More and more families are spending less time with each other to make ends meet. Expenses for groceries, housing, utilities, transportation, health care and education continue to pile up every month, and keeping up with the bills are just part of reality.

While households usually have both parents working in the corporate world or other service sectors, there's a rising trend wherein moms like you usually decide to make the big switch, stay at home, but still enjoy a fruitful career.

In February 2015, Sara Sutton Fell of Entrepreneur reported that remote work or work at home job postings increased by 26 percent from 2013 to 2014, and that it will continue to grow over the next half decade. While the findings didn't explicitly say the ratio of jobs between men and women, moms have been exploring this great development.

Here's why:

1. More quality time with family - You can look after your children better and be more hands-on. Witnessing a child's milestones and development is such a rewarding feeling for any parent. Families can also save on child care costs and quite frankly, save on gas because there's no need to commute to work every day.

2. Financial independence and career growth - You don't have to sacrifice your profession while staying at home. As they say, moms can do anything - you can even be a CEO of your own company or put up a business right at the comforts of your own home. Personal advancement can make a mom happy, too: happy wife, happy life, right?

3. Work-life balance - You can have more time for other activities since your work schedule is more flexible. You can read a book, have coffee with friends or go to the gym without having to worry about your 9 to 5 job the next day.

Just remember, home based jobs are not advisable to those who get easily distracted. Have an open mind and prepare for the challenge - get some tips on how to get started. Talk to your husband and/or your children because working from home will not not only require your personal commitment, you also need your loved ones' support to get the job done efficiently.
