The recent E3 2015 convention delivered a fair share of surprises. To fans' delight and dismay, some games made impressive appearances, while other anticipated titles made no rounds at all.

Cloudgine Games' long-awaited "Crackdown" for the Xbox One is one of these surprisingly missing titles.

Yet the wait will soon be over, because according to IGN, Microsoft has confirmed that the title's console gameplay will be showcased in the upcoming Gamescom.

Official word comes from Xbox chief Phil Spencer, who revealed via Twitter, "Final Gamescom content review was today and things are becoming final. Lot's of nostalgia for me with the 'Crackdown' gameplay."

Microsoft officials also informed why there has been so little news about the game. Apparently, they wanted to have the right team in place to do the franchise and give fans justice. Spencer now believes that this team is in place and final touches are being made.

Xbox gamers have been waiting for new information on "Crackdown 3" since its unveiling during E3 2014, Game Rant noted. However, there has been little news from Microsoft regarding the game, and with no news at E3 2015, it is feared that the game would be stuck in production.

The "Crackdown" series is an open-world, first person-shooter which gained fame after launching the first part of their franchise with an open access to the beta version of "Halo 3." At the time, such practice is believed to be uncommon, Game Rant said. Gamers even joked that they bought a "Halo 3" beta disc which came with a free game.

It is also not uncommon for a gaming company to withhold any information about a game they believe is just not quite ready for gameplay. Gamers are expecting a lot for this installment as "Crackdown 2" was widely considered a let-down. Since the first game was so innovating.

As previously reported by Eurogamer, the title of the new "Crackdown" game may not at all be "Crackdown 3," considering, Kenn Lobb's statement, Microsoft Studios creative director. He shared, "I don't like X game number seven. It's a good idea sometimes to have a game with a subtitle. But some games, and 'Crackdown' is a perfect example, is it really 3? It is the future. This is a different place, long after the original game. But is it 2? Is it a different universe than 2? Yeah, it's kinda a sequel to 1."

"It's Crackdown," he added.

This could signify that the game will return to its roots, which could mean good (or bad) news for players with different tastes.

Another good sign comes as David Jones -- veteran director who has also directed games such as "Lemmings" and "Grand Theft Auto" -- has come back to direct the game. He was, surprisingly, absent from the second installment.

Gamescom 2015 kicks off on Aug. 5, 2015.
