Joining Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass in the fifth installment of the "Bourne" film series is Hollywood veteran Tommy Lee Jones, Variety noted.

Reportedly, Jones will be playing the role of a superior officer in the CIA. This character will be similar to those of Brian Cox, Chris Cooper, David Strathairn and Edward Norton's roles in the previous installments.

While no official plot details have been released, Jones' character is expected to lead the team hunting down Jason Bourne. The Oscar-winning actor has played similar roles in the past, one of which was opposite Harron Ford in "The Fugitive."

There have been several other actors rumored to be in "Bourne 5." As told by Screen Rant, Viggo Mortensen, best known for his role of Aragorn in "Lord of the Rings," has been considered to play villain for the movie. Jones' casting is not believed to take over Mortensen's reported participation.

Jones joins newcomer Alicia Vikander and Julia Stiles in the list of confirmed cast members.

The "Bourne" series revolves around the character of super-agent Jason Bourne, and how he tries to unravel the web of lies and secrets woven into this life. Damon's three Bourne movies have led to almost $1 billion in the box office. His last play -- "Bourne Ultimatum" -- came in 2007.

Damon soon took a break from the character and the fourth installment of the series saw Jeremy Renner playing the lead role.

Given the hype of action established by previous "Bourne" films, fans are expecting lots of chair-turning suspense. In the past, Damon reiterated that he will not return to the series unless Greengrass comes back to direct.

The Master Herald is convinced that "Bourne 5" will be "full of double-dealings and double-crossings but with the usual pack of non-stop action and suspense all the way."

As cited by CrossMap, a Jason Bourne-Aaron Cross mash-up is also "not unlikely." That being said, Renner's future in the franchise may only be speculated at this point.

The next Bourne movie is due to hit theaters on July 29, 2016.
