The new OnePlus 2 has been dubbed the “2016 flagship killer” because of its powerful features and affordable price. The smartphone is preparing to launch in August 2015 and will most likely pose a threat to the best handsets everywhere.

Engadget wrote that the OnePlus 2 will featured the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with a 1.8GHz octa-core 64-bit processor and an Adreno 430 GPU. The company said that the upcoming handset will feature the 810 v2.1 which will solve the overheating issues that the chip reportedly suffered from. Thermal gel and graphite were also added within the body to keep the model cool. The smartphone will have 3GB or 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 16GB or 64GB of non-expandable internal memory and a 3,300mAh battery.

The OnePlus 2 will run on the Android 5.1 which will come in the form of OxygenOS by OnePlus. Oxygen OS will offer more features than the default Android 5.1 Lollipop user interface, such as allowing users to rearrange buttons, the appearance of the menu and accent colors. The recent version of OxygenOS will present a beta version called “Shelf”, which users can access by swiping right on the home screen. Shelf presents default widgets for frequently used contacts and apps.

The device will have a 5.5-inch LCD screen with a 1080p resolution. It will also have a fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C support and a dual-reversible USB cable. The phone will include a 13-megapixel with f/2.0 rear camera, with optical image stabilization, laser autofocus and dual-LED flash. It also has a 5-megapixel front camera for selfie photos.

Engadget reported that the OnePlus 2 will use metal in its external design. There are also stainless steel accents throughout and a new curve running from the screen to the rear side of the magnesium alloy frame, giving it a sleek and premium appearance. The back cover is changeable and will be easier to swap compared to its predecessor. Removing the cover will showcase the dual non-SIM tray. There will be four alternative StyleSwap cover designs available – rosewood, bamboo, Kevlar and black apricot, at $27 each. The phone comes with a black sandstone cover design.

The OnePlus 2 will have an “alert slider” on the left portion of its spine. The slider has three notification profiles. “None” will disable all notifications, “Priority” will enable notifications from the user’s priority contacts only, and “All” will enable notifications from all contacts. OnePlus confirmed that there will also be no NFC in its latest flagship, based on a report by Android Police.

The OnePlus 2 is set to launch on August 11, 2015, and will retail from $329 to $389.
