You probably wondered: Did he jump on a couch?

Apparently, Tom Cruise was content to rock out his songs without the help of such furniture, earning praises all around, including "The Tonight" host Jimmy Fallon and even from the artist who originally performed the first track, "I Can't Feel My Face."

"I can't believe @TomCruise is singing my song. @jimmyfallon you're the MAN for this one... that shit got me hype... lol I can't lie," The Weekend tweeted.

"The 'Mission Impossible' actor's turn was so good, he at one point relegated Fallon from the role of host to glorified coat rack," Rolling Stone affirmed.

It would also seem like the actor was very much into the whole idea, which probably influenced his superb lip sync performance. Plus there's his tendency to take any challenge head on, too.

"This is so ridiculous, I love it!" Us Weekly quoted him as saying before the performance began.

"Word-perfect and totally getting into the song, the 'Mission: Impossible' hunk ran his fingers through his hair as he smouldered at the microphone, ending his performance with an impressive 360 degree turn," the publication observed.

Today reminded readers that Tom had been "a master of lip-syncing long before this battle", as evidenced by that lip syncing scene in "Risky Business," where the actor famously mimed to "Old Time Rock and Roll" in the hit movie.

Looks like Jimmy bit off more than he can chew by challenging the Hollywood star to the lip sync battle.

However, the late night show host showed his mettle by unleashing his Mick Jagger moves - something he's quite a master of.

"Fallon pursed his lips and strutted like a frantic peacock, but had to nix the frontman's ostentatious hand claps due to his bandaged finger," Rolling Stone said.

After threatening Jimmy with the intro to "Old Time Rock and Roll," Tom went on to do Meat Loaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" with much theatricality, once again showing us why he's a certified true blue Hollywood A-lister.

"Fallon essentially ceded the contest after that, but rules are rules, and the host dutifully performed his final song, the Righteous Brothers' 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling"' - the second most obvious choice from the Cruise oeuvre," Rolling Stone went on to say.

The battle then fittingly ended with the duo singing the song together and competing for the attention of a woman on the front row.
