Ed Sheeran will be appearing in a TV show soon. The red-haired chart-topping musician will be joining the cast of “Bastard Executioner”.

Hollywood Reporter wrote that Sheeran will be working with the FX drama’s creator Kurt Sutter for a recurring role. The six-time Grammy nominee will play Sir Cormac, an ambitious and dangerous protégé of a high-ranking church elder in the series. “Bastard Executioner” is medieval epic that focuses on a 14th century warrior who changes his path when a holy messenger instructs him to begin the life of a traveling executioner. The show is currently filming in the United Kingdom, Sheeran’s homeland.

Stephen Moyer will star in “Bastard Executioner.” Other members of the cast include KateySagal, Lee Jones, Sam Spruelland Flora Spencer-Longhurst. Kurt Sutter will also be appearing on the show, as he did on “Sons of Anarchy”. The executive producers are Brian Grazer and director Paris Barclay.

Screen Rant reported that the show’s first season will run for 10 episodes, and Sheeran will appear in several of these. It is not actually the first time that the musician has worked on television. Previously, he played a version of himself on the NBC sitcom “Undateable”. Sheeran also recorded a cover of “Make It Rain” by Foy Vance for the final episode of “Sons of Anarchy”, after he admitted to being a fan of the show. He is planning to air his “Ed Sheeran: Live at Wembley Stadium” on NBC later in the summer of 2015.

Reportedly, his role in “Bastard Executioner” will be more substantial. Variety revealed that Kurt Sutter occasionally brings in musicians on his TV show, such as Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love in the last season of “Sons of Anarchy”.

The 24-year-old has been on a professional streak lately, with his second full-length album moving up to the top spot in 14 countries. The album’s worldwide sales moved past 9 million and gained platinum status in 18 countries. It was the top selling album of 2014 in the United Kingdom. He was also named “Songwriter of the Year” at the 2015 Ivor Novello Awards. His appearance on “Bastard Executioner” will most certainly cement his status as one of the biggest stars of the year.

“Bastard Executioner” will debut in the fall of 2015 on FX. In the meantime, fans can only wait to see whether the “Thinking Out Loud” singer will smoothly transition into acting.
