Who is better? Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? The two greatest living soccer players not only compete in the same league but for rival squads. Messi has had the edge over Ronaldo the last few years as Barcelona has been the supreme squad in European soccer, but Ronaldo may be having the best year of his career. Every week Latinos post compares both players and tries to determine who had the better performance during the week.

Let us look at what the two superstars accomplished during the eleventh week of La Liga.

Messi: La Pulga had one of most memorable weeks in his life. Despite suffering a 2-1 loss to Celtic in the UCL, he scored a goal late in the match to break a streak of three games without a goal in the UCL. The big match came Sunday however as Messi broke Pele's record for most goals in a calendar year when he scored his 75th and 76th in Barcelona's match against Mallorca. His first goal saw a strong dribble effort finished off with a left foot shot that deflected of a defenseman into the back of the net. His second goal was a disputed offside, but he took the ball just inside the box and rifled into the upper left corner to seal a 4-2 win for Barca. The record breaking match cements Messi as one of the greatest players on earth. Now all he needs to do is score another 10 before the year is out to top Gerd Muller's all-time record of 85 goals in 1972.

Ronaldo: Ronaldo failed to deliver for Real Madrid in their 2-2 draw against Borrusia Dortmund in the UCL. He did add one goal against Levante in Madrid's 2-1 win, but his rather uninspired week ended with a bloody eye.

Stats Through Week 11

Messi: 15 goals, 4 assists (3 goals, 2 assists in UCL, 2 goals in Spanish Super Cup)

Ronaldo: 12 goals, 1 assists (5 goals in UCL, 2 goals in Spanish Super Cup)

Edge: Messi is starting to pull away from Ronaldo statistically and his record setting day offsets any minor accomplishments (none really) that Ronaldo could have ever completed.

 6-5 Messi.

During week 5, both players earned a point for equally strong weeks. During week 10, neither earned a point for forgettable weeks.
