A new vagina-contouring approach is rumored to be the latest trend among women. The approach is said to be a safe and effective way of improving the appearance of one’s nether region.

The treatment is called “vontouring,” which is another name for Protégé Intima, a non-invasive and non-surgical remodeling of the inner structure of the vagina via radio frequencies. Mashable reported that the devices used for vaginal contouring were approved by the FDA for other purposes. A thermal device that appears like a pen will stimulate the production of collagen in the vaginal opening, similar to applying a tampon. As a result, women can have tighter vaginas. The labia of the vagina will particularly look plumper and firmer.

The treatment is said to provide a warm sensation to women. A single treatment session will take around 12 minutes to complete. No recovery time is necessary. Vontouring is also said to provide better sexual pleasure. The recommended plan for best results involves a series of three treatments, done seven to 10 days apart. A 2013 study involved 10 women who finished four treatments of the non-invasive procedure. The results showed that 40 percent of the participants reported better sexual satisfaction because of the heightened sensitivity from the vagina tightening.

There are also a number of possible side effects, Mashable, reported. These are, however, not as drastic compared to the side effects that surgery can pose. Included are burning sensation and discomfort, which may require more treatment sessions. A session will cost over $300. Dermatology Associates Seattle reported that Protégé Intima thermally excites the fibroblast and other subcutaneous structures of the skin. The radio frequencies may reach temperatures of 40 to 42 degrees Celsius on the surface of the skin. New collagen fibers will be produced by the body through its natural healing process. The localized deep heating of the labia also boosts blood flow to the surrounding tissues and nerve endings, which will allegedly increase sexual satisfaction.

Vontouring is reportedly a whole lot safer compared to vaginal cosmetic surgery, called vaginoplasty and labiaplasty. The surgical approaches involve restructuring the shape of the vagina as well as improving its overall appearance by adjusting the color and tightness through invasive means. The approach will generally require skin grafting, which can be painful, bloody and expensive. Surgical approaches also present more potential side effects compared to non-invasive treatments.

Women now have more options in improving vagina tightness and aesthetics.
