Mexican side Tigres could be about to continue their historic run in the 2015 Copa Libertadores and become the first Mexican team ever to lift the prestigious trophy.

Their first leg tie against Argentine giants River Plate will see Tigres look to take an advantage of Argentina in front of their fanatical home support.

Armed with the goals of French striker Andre Pierre Gignac and Rafael Sobis, Tigres have enjoyed an unprecedented run in this season's Copa and could be about to be crowned Mexico's first ever side to win the trophy.

Speaking after their impressive Semi-Final second leg win over Brazilian side Internacional, Tigres midfielder Javier Aquino described the joy of his team's success.

Aquino said: "This is a competition I've always dreamed about and what we did today is one of the greatest moments of my career."

The Mexicans will undoubtedly come in to the Final as underdogs against a River Plate side looking for their third ever Copa Libertadores title.

The Argentines ended Guarani's dreams of Copa success, overcoming the Paraguayans in the two sides Semi-Final legs and will be out to spoil the party for the Mexicans and earn their first Libertadores trophy since 1996.

Having lost Colombian striker Teo Gutierrez to Sporting Lisbon of Portugal, the Argentines will hope attacker Lucas Alario can continue his goal scoring form from the Semi-Finals second leg where his equalising goal proved decisive for the Argentines.

River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo said after the match: "It's a great feeling after so long to play in the Copa Libertadores Final. The challenge is permanent, The players have given their all and now give themselves a chance to achieve a dream that we are all chasing. Now we have to prepare ourselves for what's coming."

Given the two-legged nature of the Final, we can expect a cagey start from River who will look to withstand the Tigres attacks and hope to leave the Estadio Universitario with a positive result, after which they can finish the job in Buenos Aires.

When the two teams appear on the pitch next Wednesday there will be no greater motivation needed for either side. Both have the opportunity to take steps towards making history and securing South America's club competition.
