The upcoming game “Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey” will reportedly be different compared to other projects by the same creator. Patrice Desilets, maker of the highly popular “Assassin’s Creed”, shared that the game might be less violent.

“Our ancestors back then weren’t that violent. They weren't fighting each other. Cooperation and compassion are really part of the reason why we survived...There's no evidence of war before the invention of agriculture on this planet. That doesn't mean they didn't exist, but we've never found any evidence of it. There's not a lot of human beings on the planet, and once you first come across one, your first thought is not of killing them. It's like, 'Holy s*** there's somebody else! Let's try to help each other to survive because there's not a lot of food and there's a lot of beasts out there,’” Desilets told Game Informer.

Eurogamer stated that “Ancestors” The Humankind Odyssey” is an open-world action adventure game that will be featured in episodes. The main protagonist will change between episodes as the stories move from one part of history to another, presenting the circumstances that could lead to man’s evolution or extinction.

Game developer Panache Studios already has over 20 historical situations planned for the project, which features the different milestones throughout human civilization, such as animal domestication, tool making, discovering penicillin and the lunar launch, among others. The scenarios are actually very much different from Desilets’ previous works. However, the game creator does not plan to avoid violence or war altogether. He simply wishes to move past the bloodshed, beginning at the age of the cavemen.

Desilets also contemplated on how to allow more interaction with the environment that will continue to satisfy gamers despite the lack of violence. He further has to tackle the issue that episodic games pose, which is lack of replayability. Even after completing the narrative part of the game, Desilets wanted players to continue with the open-world version to cope with the replayability issue.

Based on the same report by Game Informer, Desilets said that there will also be a lot of circumstances in the game that heavily delve into the available technology. He shared that gamers have to focus on the technology. He was also considering how to make more believable characters. The needed characters that would interact with the environment like never before in a video game.

“Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey” will most likely release on the PC. No official release date has been set yet.
