Michael Jordan will soon be adding another achievement on his end with reports that former NBA superstar has been selected to join the next batch of players set to be inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2015.
Jordan headlines nine individuals which will include Anne Donovan, Vladimir Tkachenko, Ruperto Herrera Tabio, Antoine Rigaudeau, coach Jan Stirling, Robert Blanchard and Noah Klieger.
The class of 2015 will be inducted on September 19, 2015 at the Theatre of Hotel Casino Barriere in Lillie, France.
"We are very honored to announce the illustrious 2015 Class of the FIBA Hall of Fame. These nine individuals are great personalities who have experienced tremendous success on and off the court. Just as important, they also stand out for the character they have displayed and the countless efforts they have made to help promote our sport. We look forward to honoring them," the official press release read as per FIBA.com
Jordan is best known for helping the United States win two gold medals.
In the 1984 Summer Olympics, Jordan was part of the Bob Knight-coached USA five that won the gold medal. Jordan led the team in scoring (17.1 ppg) which carried a crop of collegiate stars who would later move on to the NBA.
Among Jordan’s teammates at the time were Patrick Ewing, Sam Perkins, Chris Mullin and Wayman Tisdale.
Jordan returned in 1992 as part of the USA Dream Team, the year when the NBA allowed its players to participate for the first time.
Aside from Jordan, that team had a star-studded lineup which included Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Clyde Drexler, Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, Karl Malone, and Christian Laetner (the only non-NBA at that time).
This latest honor appends the long list of achievements that Jordan has had in his career.
A quick look at Jordan’s resume will reveal that he is also a six-time NBA champion, named the NBA Finals MVP six times and won the regular season MVP five times.
Jordan has been in and out of the NBA scene, first retiring in 1993 before making a comeback in 1995. He retired once again in 1999 and then made a sudden return with the Washington Wizards in 2001.
His Airness played his final NBA game on April 16, 2003 in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Jordan continues to be active in the NBA to this day as the principal owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
