Are you ready to play? Sony apparently is, with the impending release of the Xperia Z4v.

Initially, the tech company announced it will be releasing the much awaited handset on August 13 through its microsite. However, observant pundits have noted that the release date has been erased from the site, leaving the timeframe for the device's launch a big question mark. Right now, Sony is unable to provide an answer when asked when the Xperia Zav will be out, as noted by Phone Arena. What's for sure is that the smartphone is indeed forthcoming.

This new edition of the Xperia Z4 smartphone line may bring some relief to Sony fans. This is due to the fact that Sony engineered a limited release of the Xperia Z3's successor in Japan as Xperia Z4 earlier this year and as the Xperia Z3+ in Europe. This got the US market wondering whether such a handset will ever make it to North American shores.

And now, we know the answer. We just don't know when that will happen just yet.

According to Digital Trends, the Z4v is "everything the Z4 and Z3+ are, and with quite a lot more added," which should be a cause for joy for those wanting to get their hands on the updated model of the Z3 smartphone.

"The Z4V is Sony's first Android smartphone with a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel screen, which measures 5.2-inches," the tech news source described. "It's a considerable step up over the 1080p panels on the other Z4 models. It still has Sony's Triluminos and X-Reality tech for sharp, natural colors, so it promises to look superb."

"Powering the phone is a Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM, plus there is 32GB of internal storage space and a MicroSD card slot," it added. "A 3,000Ah battery provides the energy, and to ensure it doesn't leave you stranded without power, Sony's Battery Stamina Mode technology can return up to seven days of battery life on one charge, but only with calls and texts active."

The Z4v also has wireless charging, and has an "ace card" in the fact that it has IP65/68 waterproofing, which is said to be the highest rating given to a smartphone ever.

The rear camera registers a whopping 20.7 megapixel resolution, while the front-facing one is 5 megapixels. Both have 25mm wide-angle lens that allows it to accommodate group selfies.

"Other features include 4G LTE, Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, NFC, PS4 Remote Play, and support for High-Res Audio," DigitalTrends went on to say. "There's even an auto headset optimization mode, where it adjusts the audio based on your headphones and even your ears, adapting for any flaws it may find."

No word on the pricing just yet. Considering the high-end specs, expect this device to carry a hefty price tag.
