The Mac version of “Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn” will be suspended and refunds are available.

Square Enix decided to halt the sales of the Mac version of “FF XIV Online” due to various issues and bugs. Based on a report by IGN.com, the game developer will offer refunds to gamers who already paid for the role-playing game on the platform.

“We have received a great deal of feedback regarding the performance of the Mac version, as well as various problems which resulted from the information we provided prior to its release. For these issues, we apologize,” producer and director Naoki Yoshida, game producer and director, wrote on the Square Enix forums.

IGN.com stated that the Mac version of the game released on June 23, 2015, together with the latest expansion pack “Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward”. However, gamers immediately reported several performance problems with the Mac model and its client. Failure to release updated and accurate system requirements before the official game release was deemed by Square Enix as a major issue. According to the company, such act misled gamers to believe that their platform can actually handle the game.

Yoshida added that their development and QA teams tested the client using Mac hardware. They prepared various versions of the system requirements because of their last-minute attempts to boost performance and considering how system requirements may change. Yoshida wrote that they released the wrong requirements and failed to update before the Mac version’s official launch, due to the “chaos leading up to the multi-platform launch of our expansion”. He also mentioned that the premature launch of the Mac version before the final maintenance was finished also contributed to the performance problems.

Yoshida also stated that he assumes full responsibility for the existing issues. He forwarded his deepest apologies to the customers who already ordered a copy of the Mac version of “Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn”. He said that they aim to recommence the sales of the Mac version when they are already satisfied that the system requirements and product information are properly prepared. Game Spot revealed that more details on the system requirements and screen resolution are expected to come out soon.

Gamers who are asking for a refund will find instructions for the digital and retail downloads editions on the Square Enix forum post. Those who bought the title on the platform can still play the game, although sales is already on hold.
