The much awaited mega bout that Oscar Dela Hoya has been preaching may be close to happening. From the looks of it, the only things missing are the signatures of both Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto and the actual date.

A report from ESPN bared that the camps of both fighters are just ironing out the particulars for the said match which could take place either on November 7 or 21.

Other details about the match as well include a catch-weight of 155 pounds and that the fight will be held in Las Vegas rather than in New York. The actual venue of the fight will depend on the agreed date.

If the fight is to be held on Nov. 7, the venue will reportedly be at the Thomas & Mack Center while a November 21 tiff will mean that the bout will take place at the MGM Grand. It looks like Cotto’s camp won this one seeing that Alvarez was batting for the fight to be staged in Texas.

It wasn’t too long ago that Dela Hoya said that an Alvarez vs. Cotto fight promises to do better than the celebrated May 2 fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

With both fighters coming off sterling victories off separate foes, the much overdue meeting should be something worth looking forward to.

Alvarez last fought James Kirkland who he knocked out in the third round while Cotto is coming off a TKO win over Daniel Geale.

Dela Hoya points out that the fight will be more affordable to watch compared to the ridiculous prices of PPV and tickets which the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight carried, an expected fierce match where both fighters are expected to slug it out from the opening bell.

Alvarez and Cotto could have faced each other last May 2 but negotiations bogged down. Apparently Cotto was awaiting the decision of Floyd Mayweather Jr. on who the undefeated American boxer would be facing last May. And as everyone knows, it was Manny Pacquiao that gained the nod.

Tired of waiting, Alvarez opted to face Kirkland instead while Cotto ended up facing Geale.

Alvarez’s optimism seems to be right on as the Mexican fighter had already started working out as early as last month, doing morning runs and light workouts at the gym.

The official announcement should come soon once the particulars have been ironed out. Regardless of where it will take place, the Alvarez vs. Cotto fight will be broadcast via HBO PPV.
