There are rumors that Google Glass 2 is already in development.

The Droid-Life reported that Google recently filed a new product with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which will most likely become the successor of Google Glass. However, the new filing was not categorized as a smartphone or wearable tech. It was tagged “BLUETOOTH & DTS/UNII a/b/g/n/ac” and has the model name “GG1”.

GGI means that Google may be creating a product related to Google Glass or the headwear. There is a possibility that the company may merely be distracting users from what it is actually forwarding to the FCC. The information revealed that the product supports WiFi up to 802.11 ac with 2.4GHz and 5GHz support and Bluetooth LE. The product also has non-removable batteries and a USB cable for charging and data transfers. The label stated that the device will not be a standard physical label. Instead, an e-label will be found in the settings menu, which appeared the same as an image from Google Glass. The e-label is a black rectangular box which also appeared like a screen from Google Glass that can be accessed via swipe gestures.

Pocket-Lint wrote that Google Glass is a wearable product that comes in the shape of an optical head-mounted display. There is no version available for consumers in the meantime. Google initially presented Glass in April 2012. The first prototype, “Project Glass” was demonstrated at Google I/O 2012. The Explorer Programme started in the United States in 2013, allowing developers to purchase Glass for $1,500. Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt said in March 2015 that the company stopped the Explorer Programme, but did not eliminate Google Glass because it was deemed too important. Google Nest head Tony Fadell is currently the head of Google Glass and plans to make the device available for regular users.

Wall Street Journal claimed in April 2015 that a new Google Glass product will be coming out soon. People were expecting the company to unveil the device at the 2015 Google I/O in May 2015, but it was nowhere in sight. Google is expected to test the product in public after the FCC filing and after initial prototyping is done. The images of the internal and external product will remain secret until December 2015. Google is expected to announce more about the product in 2015.

More details and confirmation from Google is expected regarding Google Glass 2 in the following weeks.
