Lionsgate and Hasbro are working together to launch “Monopoly” movie soon.

Based on a press release, the film will focus on a boy from Baltic Avenue, using both Chance and Community to explore and attempt to make his fortune. The boy goes on a thrilling and fun adventure. The movie is about making one’s own luck, what makes a person truly rich and avoiding jail time. “Monopoly” movie is categorized as a film for all ages.

Deadline reported that Andrew Niccol will write the screenplay. Lionsgate will finance the film and co-produce it with Allspark Pictures of Hasbro. Variety revealed that Lionsgate co-president of production Bobby Cohen and Kyle Benn, creative executive will oversee the production for the studio.

Cinema Blend stated that with Niccol working on the script, fans should expect a film that highlights some of the best concepts in the beloved board game. People should also find some of the great touches that Niccol applied to his previous works like “Gattaca”. There is no news yet as to the potential director and cast.

Since 2009, Hasbro has been trying to launch a “Monopoly” movie. In 2013, the project was set up with Emmett/Furla with Ridley Scott serving as producer. However, the film failed to move past the development stage. Variety wrote that the game was originally called “The Landlord’s Game”. In 1935, Parker Brothers started selling a variation of the first game, also renaming the streets to match those in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The game has become a worldwide success and is still played by kids and adults alike in a number of available versions.

In the meantime, Allspark of Hasbro is in the post-production stage of the movies “Ouija 2” and “Jem and the Holograms”. Lionsgate is working on its franchises “The Hunger Games” and “Divergent”.

Erik Feig, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President, said, "Hasbro is a partner with incredible global reach, one of the most compelling brand portfolios in the world, and a signature brand in Monopoly that has multigenerational appeal. Andrew Niccol is the ultimate world creator responsible for such disparate and imaginative films as The Truman Show, Gattaca, and The Terminal. He is an inspired choice to develop this timeless property into a big, crowd-pleasing event film that will appeal to kids, families and anyone who has ever played the Monopoly game."

IGN.com stated that there is no news yet regarding the official launch date. More news and details about “Monopoly” movie are expected in the coming weeks.
