The upcoming iPhone 6S is said to look very much the same as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, although there will be a number of huge changes internally.

9to5Mac reported that the new smartphone will have an identical design as the current iPhone 6 Plus. It will have the same width and thickness. Even the Space Gray color will most likely stay the same but Apple might make final adjustments before the big release. Insiders said that any potential changes in dimensions will be too minor to notice, as far as the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is concerned.

Based on the same report by 9to5Mac, there may also be a different internal mounting structure. There may be small changes in the frame, particularly in the new logic board and components. There are rumors that the iPhone 6S may not feature a dual-lens camera system, since leaked images showed the same holes for the microphone, camera and LED flash. The antenna lines will still be present, even though Apple recently applied for a patent for a new anodized metal that can conceal the unappealing connectors.

MacRumors wrote that although the external components of the iPhone 6S will be very much the same, it will be faster and more powerful. The new iPhone will feature a Qualcomm MDM9635M chip or “9X35” Gobi modem platform, which is a boost from the current 9X25 used in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. It allows huge increases in LTE network performance, providing download speeds of up to 300Mbps, which is twice as fast as the current iPhones. Carrier support will affect the maximum speeds, however. The new chip together with a possibly slimmer motherboard will also boost the new model’s battery life. There will also be new features included such as the faster LTE modem, Force Touch display and the rumored significant increase in camera resolution.

PC Advisor cited that the iPhone 6S will most likely be announced in September 2015 and will go on sale one to two weeks after. It is possible that the smartphone will launch in early October 2015. There are also rumors that the phone might launch in August. As for the price, the iPhone 6S is expected to retail at around the same price as the current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, or within the range of $699.
