The iPad Air 2 was a raved-about product that proved Apple's edge over its competitors in the tablet-making department. It's even been called by CNET as the "gold standard for tablets."

As such, many expect the device's successor to be an even better edition. And a tablet better than the super thin dimensions and better camera quality of the current model, as well as its new and improved processor, could prove to be a truly coveted product, which explains the avid anticipation for the iPad Air 3.

Also known as the iPad 7, the upcoming Apple tablet is expected to be released either in October or November this year.

"We are hoping that the upcoming Apple iPad Air 3 will be launched within the 1st or 2nd week of November and we'll see an iPad Mini at the same event," Day Herald speculated.

With Apple's usual tight-lipped approach to launching its products, very little or nothing is known about the upcoming tablet. If not for speculations from tech pundits and observers, as well as the occasional leak, we won't even have anything to talk about when it comes to Apple products yet to be unveiled to the public.

"Not much is known about the tablet beyond rumours and hearsay, though it is touted to be even thinner than the iPad Air 2, at 9.7in and 6.1mm thick," ITPro offered. "This would require a smaller battery pack and various other design tweaks to make possible."

A tablet thinner than the thinnest in the world? That appears to be asking too much. A device thinner than the iPad Air 2 would risk figuring in yet another "bendgate" controversy as it may be more likely to yield to pressure. However, if a stronger metal is used, it's possible to make an even thinner model, although there may be compromises to its weight and other specs.

"We've also started having slight worries about flex on the iPad Air 2: it's not fragile, but there's just enough give, and it feels just delicate enough, that we'd be nervous about its toughness if any more of the body was trimmed off," MacWorld speculated.

As for the tablet's engine, it's anticipated that the newer model will have a more powerful one.

"It doesn't take a genius to predict that the iPad Air 3's chip will be an A9 or an A9X, and very speedy indeed," MacWorld agreed.

As for the camera, it's likely Apple won't be tweaking it just yet. However, there's also a potential that the megapixel rating will be increased.

Regarding the price, MacWorld hints that it will "cost pretty much what the iPad Air 2 cost when it launched."
