The new Android 5.1 Lollipop continues to roll out to various devices, the latest being the HTC One M9 and Motorola DROID Turbo.

GSM Arena reported that the soak test for the software update on the Motorola Droid Turbo has already started. If the test is successful, users should expect the Android 5.1 Lollipop to become available on their phone early in July 2015. The Motorola Droid Turbo is currently running on the Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The company decided to skip the Android 5.0 update for the smartphone to let it move up directly to the Android 5.1.

David Schuster, senior director for software product management at Motorola Mobility, announced on June 29, 2015 that the soak test has already commenced.

“I know this is going to make some people happy. We have started the DROID Turbo soak test for the Android 5.1 upgrade this evening with our forum registered users. If all goes well we will open it up later this week,” Schuster wrote on Google Plus.

“Thanks for your patience. We hope you’re as excited as we are about #Lollipop – coming to a #DROIDTurbo near you,” Motorola Mobility also wrote on its Twitter account.

On the other hand, the Android 5.1 Lollipop will also become available for HTC One M9 users on the Sprint network starting July 1, 2015.

Mo Versi, vice president of product management at HTC USA made the announcement on Twitter.

“HTC One (M9) Sprint Owners! We have received technical approval on Lollipop OS 5.1 which includes camera improvements. OTA to start on 7/1!” wrote Versi.

GSM Arena wrote that aside from phone camera enhancements, the software update will also provide fixes to improve the HTC One M9’s Wi-Fi performance, notification settings, and security options, among others. HTC took out the UltraPixel imaging technology and featured a 20-megapixel Toshiba camera sensor on the smartphone.

Phone Arena wrote that close to the end of June 2015, the update was going through tests in custom ROM form for the HTC One M9. HTC One M9 users on Sprint should expect an OTA update notification beginning July 1. Those who are familiar with custom ROMs can install manually. The release will be done in phases so users may receive their notifications at various times or over the next several days. The improvements on the M9’s camera should appeal to users, considering how the hardware was deemed as one of the product’s weaker specifications.
