There are rumors that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 may not be released at all.
After becoming the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella sent a letter to the entire company on June 25, 2014 to present a general agenda for Microsoft in the new fiscal year. The new email showed Nadella’s vision for Microsoft, which seemed to be more direct compared to his predecessor. The new official mission statement of the company is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.
GeekSnack reported that in the letter, Nadella cited how some Microsoft products are not working as well as they expected and that they need to focus on more profitable devices. The non-profitable products should reportedly be eliminated. Based on Nadella’s statements, many users thought that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 might not surface at all. Others believe that the Microsoft Lumia may be a more promising device that matches the company’s new direction.
GeekWire exclusively obtained the email, where Nadella wanted to showcase the overall context between their mission, strategy, worldview and culture. He wrote their mission statement, followed by their worldview. Microsoft’s worldview should be centered on mobility and the cloud. Future products and business models should incorporate the two trends. As for strategy and ambitions, the company strategy is to the best platforms and productivity services for a mobile-first, cloud-first world.
Nadella wrote that one good example of Microsoft’s culture at present is the work that they are doing on Windows. He stated that they have the opportunity to connect with 1.5 billion Windows users in 190 countries worldwide. He invited employees to spend some time and upgrade their communities when Windows 10 launches on July 29, 2015. Nadella concluded that they need innovation in new areas and that they have to make difficult choices in areas where their approaches are no longer working. They have to solve hard problems to drive customer value.
These statements gave the impression that poor-performing products might be removed. GeekSnack stated that Nadella’s letter was vague in terms of whether he will be halting the production of certain Microsoft products or whether the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 or Lumia series might be stopped. Insiders reported that he might be referring to the end of Lumia, but the Surface Pro 4 is still expected to release soon.
CrossMap revealed that the Surface Pro 4 will be packed with powerful features such as the Skylake chipset, 16GB of internal memory, 1 TB of internal storage and a 2K resolution.
