The upcoming iPhone 6S is rumored to release soon, featuring a thicker design compared to its predecessors.

There are rumors that surfaced, suggesting that the iPhone 6S may be thicker than the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which will allow more room for the new Force Touch technology. The upcoming device is said to be 0.15 mm longer and 0.2 mm thicker. The thicker model is also said to provide more space for a better battery that features the same improvements shown in the 12-inch MacBook, allowing added power to the new iPhone. The battery is expected to be layered and contoured to maximize the available space and provide as much power to the smartphone as possible, based on a report by MacWorld.

Fortune stated that Phil Schiller, senior vice president for marketing at Apple, said that thinness is not a feature but a tradeoff. Schiller told John Gruber of Fireball on Day 2 of WWDC 2015, “If you want a product that’s thicker with a bigger battery it’s also heavier, more costly, takes longer to charge. We model every thickness, every size, every weight and try to figure out what the tradeoffs are. I think we’ve made great choices there.”

Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, mentioned that the iPhone 6S extra thickness has more to do with the Force Touch feature, instead of the extra battery life or bending prevention. He also predicted that the iPhone 6S will be available in two screen sizes namely a 4.7-inch display and a 5-inch display.

Based on a new patent application published on June 18, 2015, Apple may have discovered a way to eliminate the unappealing antenna lines that run across the top and bottom portions of the iPhone’s rear. Apple patented a new composite metal material that allows radio frequencies to conveniently pass through without disrupting the consistency and aesthetics of the iPhone.

MacWorld revealed that the Force Touch display will be the outstanding feature of the iPhone 6S, which measures the pressure applied on the screen. There is also a rose gold model coming, which will increase the available color options to four, including silver, space grey and gold. The new iPhone is also said to have a 12-megapixel rear camera and a microphone at the back. It may feature the A9 processor and 2GB of RAM. Mass production of the product will probably start in August 2015, making a September release likely.
