With the tremendous box office success achieved by Pixar's latest release, "Inside Out," it is logical to expect the studio to line up a sequel for future release. However, the animated film's director Pete Docter revealed that there's no plan to make a part 2 right now. Well, at least not yet.

"There's no sequel idea from me at this point," he told Entertainment Weekly recently, going on to say that he's rather more open to the idea of adding more original works to Pixar's catalogue. However, he hinted that a second iteration is not a far possibility by adding: "Never say never."

"Inside Out" was a certified critical and box office hit, garnering enthusiastic reviews from critics and opening to $90 million in domestic revenues, making it "the biggest original box office debut in history," according to EW.

Pixar Animations Studio chief Jim Morris was nonetheless pleasantly surprised about the film's performance.

"The amount of people going into theaters last weekend was insane. And to me, that's the desired audience. People watching not on their iPhones but in a theater," he said.

Pixar's upcoming releases are all based on their respective cinematic predecessors. "Finding Dory," "Toy Story 4," and "The Incredibles 2" are set to be released in the next few months through 2018.

Considering that the three films mentioned are all "delayed" follow ups, it is possible that an "Inside Out 2" won't materialize until years after now. Perhaps by then, Docter may have considerable material for a sequel, as the main inspiration for the current film, his daughter, may have gone through more milestones in life that he can use as a pattern or framework for part 2.

"'Inside Out' features Amy Poehler as the voice of Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Bill Hader as Fear, Lewis Black as Anger, and Mindy Kaling as Disgust," CinemaBlend noted. "Together, these five emotions guid Riley on her path in life." "But when the young girl and her family move to San Francisco, Sadness becomes more prominent. Worse still, a freak accident throws her and Joy into the wilderness of the mind leaving only Fear, Disgust, and Anger to influence Riley," the site added.

In other news, reports have said that a movie theater in Ohio had played horror film "Insidious 3" instead of the Pixar hit.

"The mix-up, in which preschoolers were treated to the opening reel of horror sequel 'Insidious 3' rather than anticipated Disney-Pixar film 'Inside Out,' was followed by an apology by the duty manager and upgraded tickets for all," The Guardian said.
