An all-new Avengers is coming to Marvel Comics soon.

“I like the fact that we ended up with an Avengers team with one white guy on it,” said writer Mark Waid in a report by Wall Street Journal. Waid added that the got to do something that has not been done since the series started in 1963. Particularly, they can tell an origin story for the Avengers and the team gets to rebuild from scratch.

The “white guy” is actually Tony Stark or Iron Man. There will also be familiar faces in the new team, although major adjustments have been made. For example, a female Thor (Jane Foster), black Captain America (Sam Wilson or Falcon), will be featured in the upcoming pages. Miles Morales, a young individual of black and Hispanic roots, will be the main Spider-Man. IGN wrote that Peter Parker’s role in the new comics is still unclear, but there are speculations that he will serve as Miles’ mentor.Vision, who appeared in the movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, will also be part of the new team.

According to editor Tom Brevoort, the diversity in the new team will help bring in new readers. The changes provide a bigger chance to connect with a wider audience who can personally see themselves in the characters. Marvel seemed to be have discovered that adding more racial diversity helps lure more people. Ms. Marvel or Kamala Khan was a huge success, whose story revolved around a Pakistani-Muslim teenager from Jersey City. The comics became Marvel’s digital bestsellers in 2014. Another character, Nova or Sam Alexander, who has Latino roots, has also been well-received by fans. Both Ms. Marvel and Nova will be part of the new Avengers.

“We got lucky by happenstance in that Thor was the way Thor was and Cap was the way Cap was.The fact that we were so balanced that there’s only one white guy is more than we would have expected when we started out. It’s pretty cool,” said Brevoort.

Adam Kubert and Mahmud Asrar will be the artists for the series. The all-different Avengers will showcase more than 12 issues a year. The team was featured in a special story for Free Comic Book Day 2015.

Waid revealed in the same Wall Street Journal report that Warbringer will be the first major enemy in the comics.

The all-new Avengers will also be formed differently. The superheroes are not yet a group when the story begins. Also, when they merge, they will not have the same unlimited budget from S.H.I.E.L.D. or Tony Stark as in the previous storyline. The team is described as poor and half of the members have to attend school.
