It's been 10 years since "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" swept through cinemas and became a box office success, but the film remains a buzz-worthy title, thanks to the fact that its lead stars, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, have turned their on-screen partnership into a real life one that resulted into a wedding and three biological offsprings.

And so it shouldn't be shocking to hear that the said action flick will be turned into a reality-TV competition series.

"The show will feature married couples that compete in a high-octane, high-stakes game, with the producers offering no further details," Deadline reported. "In the movie, a bored married couple is shocked to discover that they are both assassins hired to kill each other."

According to Digital Trends, it is not certain "whether the show will pit partners against each other (which would be more in line with the movie's premise) or have them competing against other couples."

This is not the first time that New Regency, the studio that produced "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," has tried to adapt the film into a TV series. In 2007, it managed to produce a pilot at ABC, with Martin Henderson and Jordana Brewster taking on the key roles, Deadline noted. However, the show never progressed beyond pilot stage. It was meant to serve as the movie's sequel.

Years later, New Regency and Fox attempted to make a prequel of the film despite Pitt and Jolie's absence in the cast, /FILM said. However, the project ultimately did not get green-lighted.

And now, it appears that producers are testing the reality-TV angle to see if the project will fly this time.

"Mr. and Mrs. Smith centered on John (Pitt) and Jane (Angelina), a married couple who are secretly assassins working for separate agencies and ordered to kill each other," Us Weekly recalled. "The actors fell in love on set (with Pitt married to Jennifer Aniston at the time), and later married in 2014 with their six children in attendance."

"The action flick made more than $478 million worldwide. It also starred Vince Vaughn, Adam Brody, Kerry Washington, Jennifer Morrison, Michelle Monaghan, Keith David, and Chris Weitz," the entertainment news source went on to say.

The move to create a reality show based on the movie may be a wise one for the agencies involved as reality TV formats have proved to be successful vehicles for fame for a good number of celebrities.

Will the reality-TV format work for the 2005 film? What do you think? Let us know!
