Amidst rumors of the release of the iPad Mini 4, speculations about the iPad Air 3, also called the iPad 7, also abound. This is not surprising, especially considering the success that the iPad Air 2 is. Will Apple outdo itself with a new iPad Air iteration? Or will it replicate the iPad Mini 3 phenomenon? It can be recalled that the current version does not have much new features and improvements and thus has been considered a disappointing release.

Since Apple does not announce its upcoming products months before the actual release date, what we know about the rumored iPad Air 3 are largely based on speculations and corporate updates concerning the iPhone maker.

One example of the latter is the release date, which has been predicted to be sometime in October 2015. This is due to the fact that previous iPads were unveiled either October or early in November. As such, it can be safely said that the next tablet the Cupertino-based company will release would be unveiled in either of those two months.

Another area of speculation is the design, which has increasingly become thinner with each iteration. Will the iPad Air 3 be even thinner than its predecessor?

"That seems a little unnecessary - how much lighter and thinner does a tablet need to be?" MacWorld opined. "We've also started having slight worries about flex on the iPad Air 2: it's not fragile, but there's just enough give, and it feels just delicate enough, that we'd be nervous about its toughness if any more of the body was trimmed off."

It's also possible that the next iPad Air may be as thin but have a bigger display. However, considering that Apple is keen on keeping their tablets a dream to use (which also means it should not be tiring to handle for lengthy periods of time), it's also probable it will give the next iPad Air the same 9.7 inch screen size.

It's also expected that Apple will equip the upcoming tablet with a more powerful processor.

"The logical step for the iPad Air 3 then would be to take that chip up to a full quad-core design for even greater parallel processing power," Expert Reviews noted. "This could easily be achieved within the same space and power requirements by a reduction in the manufacturing process."

The site also said that Apple may use the battery technology found on the MacBook to boost battery power in the iPad. The said technology "allows for slices of battery to be layered on top of each other in a staggered manner in order to make the most of the curved edges of the chassis," Expert Reviews explained.
