Marvel is reportedly interested in Kenneth Branagh to direct “Thor: Ragnarok.”

Slash Film reported that the first “Thor” movie was directed by Branagh. Umberto Gonzalez, scoopmaster and founder of Heroic Hollywood, recently shared on Popcorn Talk that Marvel is eyeing on the director to work on the third installment of the “Thor” franchise.

"I was hearing that Marvel wanted Kenneth Branagh back for Thor 3. But, he just got an offer to direct Murder on the Orient Express at Fox. So, I don’t know if it is going to happen or not. They’re thinking about bringing him back into the fold,” Gonzalez said.

Slash Film also wrote that the idea of bringing in Branagh again for the end of the “Thor” trilogy was actually expected, especially if Tom Hiddleston will be reprising his role as Loki. However, the first “Thor” movie was allegedly inferior compared to the second film, “Thor: The Dark World”, due to the lack of exciting action scenes. Alan Taylor directed the second film, which featured more action shots but poorer performances from the actors. Slash Film added that “Thor: Ragnarok” might benefit more from a new director such as Duncan Jones.

Screen Rant reported that Chris Hemsworth will still be starring as Thor Odinson. The script will be written by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost. Tom Hiddleston is expected to return as Loki and Anthony Hopkins will most likely reprise his role as Odin, considering how the second movie ended. There is no confirmation yet whether Natalie Portman will be returning in the third movie. More news about new supporting cast is expected in the following months.

There are rumors that the story for the third installation will include Ragnarok, as hinted by the title. Thor and his friends may battle the Fire Demons of Muspelheim and the God of Thunder’s great nemesis, Surtur. Marvel described Ragnarok as the end of the universe in Norse mythology. The fire giant Surture and his children will fight the Norse gods and attempt to scorch the earth. Hemsworth particularly mentioned before how he wanted to have a fight scene against the special villain. Screen Rant stated that filming is expected to begin in the middle of 2016.

“Thor Ragnarok” was originally scheduled to launch in theatres on July 28, 2017, but the date has been pushed back to November 3. More news about the cast and storyline will be coming in the following months.
