Less than a month from now, "Ant-Man" the movie will be crawling into theaters and remind us that great things can come in small (or even tiny) packages. Like Scott Lang, aka the Ant-Man.
Recently, Paul Rudd, who plays the titular character in the upcoming Marvel film, shared some interesting information about the movie, like the fact that it won't be an outright comedy flick, although it has its funny moments.
"The tone of it and what we were trying to write and what we were doing was not a comedy per se," Rudd told Collider. "I think it fit more in line with what people have come to expect from these films and Adam (McKay) certainly is passionate about Marvel and comics."
It can be recalled that McKay and Rudd took over scriptwriting duties after scribe Edgar Wright pulled out of the project a few months ago. The actor has taken on scriptwriting gigs in the past, with "Anchorman" being one of them.
"It will have funny parts in it, sometimes you take them out because you don't want to diminish the drama or the action. It isn't Anchorman," Rudd clarified. "You would think it would be a silly, joke-heavy movie, and it's really not, but there are moments of levity. We are dealing with ants here, after all."
It was also revealed that while Rudd wears a costume when he assumes his superhero alter-ego, Corey Stoll, who plays the movie's baddie Yellowjacket, wont be wearing a tangible one. His costume is a pure CGI creation. Why is this the case?
"It's a couple things," director Peyton Reed explained, as quoted by ScreenRant. "One is just in terms of the way he's able to move in the body suit. As soon as you start to put a lot of armor on...because you want it to be photorealistic and you want it to be tactile. But there's a point where it can just get clumsy and you don't have ease of movement."
"The surfaces are so sophisticated now that you can make them look extremely tactile," he went on to say. "So, really, that was the thing. It was something early on that we had built pieces of little armor and stuff like that and it just was not practical to shoot."
The movie will also feature the original Ant-Man, Dr. Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas. Pym's daughter Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) will also appear, as well as Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Tip "T.I." Harris as Dave, Wood Harris as Gale, Judy Greer as Maggie, and David Dastmalchian as Kurt.
"Ant-Man" will arrive in theaters on July 17, 2015.
