With the third generation Moto G rumored to be coming out this year, much speculation about the upcoming device's specs have been made by fans and observers alike. There also are the concept images of the gadget, fueling anticipation for the next Motorola smartphone.
Recently, however, some live photographs of the alleged Moto G 2015 have been circulating the Internet, showing a device that appears to "feature a 5-inch display, Snapdragon 410 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage plus microSD card slot, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera and 4G LTE support," Android and Me noted.
"Hardware-wise, the rear camera seems to be the main improvement, with the display and RAM remaining the same. That being said, a leaked Antutu benchmark shows a score of 23355, which is a notable improvement over 18249 for last year's Moto G," the site added.
Previously, it has been rumored that the upcoming Moto G will have 1 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of memory, a well as a microSD card slot. It will also alleged be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC and have a 5-inch display. All these somehow match the leaks and are what most expect from the next iteration of the Moto G, albeit, as it appears, there seems to be little improvement from last year's model.
"The best improvements are probably the processor and cameras," Android Authority observed.
It's worth remembering, however, that the leaks and speculations have not been confirmed and are products of conjectures. It is possible that the actual device is different from the one featured in the leaked photo and video and may either have more progressive features or be just as predicted.
Based on the leaks, it has been speculated that the lack of changes to the upcoming model could be due to Motorola wanting "to try and direct customers to purchase a new DROID-branded phone that will feature much better specs and be priced around $300," Android Authority noted.
Considering these things, the site further said, it may be wise to skip this year's release if indeed it isn't much of an improvement from last year's model. Which would mean that getting a Moto G 2014 model at discounted prices would be a smart move. But then again, such leaks are not 100% reliable predictors of the actual product. With that, we'll have to wait and see until Motorola releases the Moto G's successor later this year. That is, if the company indeed will do just that, as it has not made an official announcement about the next model yet.
