The WWE has been on the prowl lately for new talent and much of them come from their developmental show (WWE NXT), or freelance wrestlers in the TNA and Ring of Honor circuits.

However, it looks like the WWE has now opened its doors to athletes from other sports, the National Basketball Association to be precise.

The WWE was at Houston recently and during a Smackdown taping, Rocket center Dwight Howard was spotted.

Howard, a big WWE fan, did a backstage interview but it looks like he could have a future in the WWE soon.

It seems that WWE COO Triple H extended an offer to the 29-year-old enter, something Howard could consider in the future. Triple H posted on Twitter a photo showing him with Howard together with a message: “When you want to get in the ring, just give me a call”

Though it doesn’t seem likely that Howard would jump on the WWE bandwagon considering he is still at the peak of his NBA career, such provides a future option for the athletic NBA All-Star.

Of course, Howard could make a one-night appearance but that would likely depend if the Rockets management would permit him from doing so especially with his spate of injuries.

Howard has not been spared from the injury bug this season, a reason why the 6-foot-11 center has been in and out of the basketball court.

Should Howard seriously consider jump into the wrestling ring, he would be the fourth NBA player to jump into the wrestling ring. It remains to be seen though if he would actually compete though his physique should allow him to do so (but perhaps after his NBA career).

Karl Malone and Dennis Rodman tried it out before as both took part in a story angle involving Diamond Dallas Page and Hulk Hogan.

Shaquille O’ Neal made an appearance as well, appearing alongside Hulk Hogan in 1994 and hosting WWE Raw 15 years later.

Being a WWE fan, it would not be surprising if Dwight Howard was overwhelmed with the offer though it doesn’t immediately mean he would accept and consider the offer.

Considering his fat contract and player value for now, it would not be surprising if Howard is prohibited from participating in high risk matches despite being scripted somehow. Add to the fact that he has a lot of injuries to think of, invading the WWE right now doesn’t seem like a wise choice.

All that could change however in a couple of years when Howard reaches the twilight of his career. That could be far off but the thing is that the WWE offer remains on the table.
