Author of the "Fifty Shades of Grey," E.L. James, announced that she will release a spin-off novel from the highly popular erotic novel. However, lead stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are not signed in the contract just yet.
Many fans are wondering whether "Fifty Shades of Grey" leads Johnson and Dornan will be part of the spin-off. In an article released by Hollywood Reporter, there are apparently no implications of a spin-off in both the artists' contracts.
According to E.L. James, the spin-off will be based on the character of Christian Grey and the plot will be based from his perspective. The book which is titled "Grey" will be released on June 18 which is Christian's birthday.
"This book is dedicated to those readers who asked...and asked... and asked... and asked for this," E.L. James said in a statement. She also posted a photo on Instagram to reveal the cover of the new book.

James revealed the reason as to what motivated her to write the spin-off novel. She said that fans have always been fascinated why Christian is the way he i. Therefore, the novel could somehow bring his side of the story.
"Christian is a complex character, and readers have always been fascinated by his desires and motivations and his troubled past. Also, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story. It's been a great pleasure to return to my happy place - writing, being with Christian and Ana in their universe, and working with the fantastic team at Vintage," said James.
If the book is going to be made into a movie, then it's not the same if Johnson, who plays Anastasia Steele and Dornan who takes on the role of Christian Grey, wouldn't be part of it. Daily Mail revealed that since Universal owns the rights to the "Fifty Shades of Grey" characters, then the decisions for the spin-off would have to come from the studio.
Johnson and Dornan are both contracted to do the trilogy but with James releasing a fourth novel, it is unclear whether it will be turned into a film. If they did decide to make it to a movie, then they would need to sign up the lead actors for another contract.
"Fifty Shades of Grey" was released on Valentine's Day. It gathered a total of $166 million in domestic sales and $570 million worldwide. The sequel will be "Fifty Shades Darker" which is set for release on February 2017, followed by "Fifty Shades Freed" which will be out February 2018.
