Who knew they'd turn "Tangled" into a TV series?

Bringing the hit animated film to the small screen may be a most clever move, as it would be almost like issuing more than just a single sequel. It would also suitably satisfy "Tangled" fans' clamor for more of Rapunzel and Eugene.

Even better news is the fact that Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, who voiced the lead characters respectively, will also be back to reprise their roles. Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, the duo behind the 2010 film's Oscar-nominated song "I See the Light," will also be writing original songs for the show, Mashable said.

Sounds like the TV version would definitely not be an inferior continuation of what may be a "Tangled" saga.

"The series takes place in between the events of the feature film and the start of the utterly charming 2012 short film 'Tangled Ever After,'" Disney revealed on its official blog. "Apparently there were a lot of adventures that Rapunzel and Eugene got into in the time in-between."

"We don't have any details on what the animation style will be but based on the promotional artwork, 'Tangled' fans will be very, very happy," it added.

Further, other characters in the film will also be seen in the upcoming series, with Rapunzel's chameleon friend Pascal joining the cast, as well as the horse Maximus and the pub thugs.

As a bonus, a new character will reportedly be added to the roster, Cassandra. She has been described as "a tough-as-nails handmaiden, who becomes Rapunzel's confidant."

Well, will she be competing for Eugene's attention at some point? That remains to be seen.

The Disney made-for-TV show will air in 2017.

Meanwhile, Moore is reportedly excited about this development, tweeting that she's "very excited for new adventures AND music!" according to MailOnline.

"Tangled" grossed $593 million worldwide and went on to be featured in Disney theme parks. The movie has also made Rapunzel as "one of the top-selling Disney Princesses among Disney Store and Disney Publishing merchandise," Variety reported.

With the TV series, it looks as if Rapunzel will even become a more beloved character in the Disney universe. Will she eclipse Queen Elsa's fame? Time will tell!

This is not the first time Disney has turned a cinematic hit into a TV show. It had done the same thing with a number of other animated movies, such as "Aladdin" and "101 Dalmatians."
