Is Stone Cold Steve Austin coming out of retirement to face Brock Lesnar at next year’s Wrestlemnia 32?

The annual WWE extravaganza has been linked to a lot of rumored matches pitting old and new wrestling superstars and the latest buzz right now is that Austin could possibly be facing the Beast Incarnate.

Austin has long been out of the wrestling scene but has been pretty much active. He has appeared on select WWE events and shows but not on a competitive capacity.

Austin last wrestled in 2003 (against Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson). His career had to be cut short due to a recurring back injury he sustained in a match against the late Owen Hart at the 1997 edition of SummerSlam. Despite the injury, Austin remained on active duty until calling quitting the competitive scene 5 years later to avoid any risk of being permanently disabled or paralyzed.

Despite his unfortunate retirement, Austin has constantly involved himself in the WWE storylines. He has held general manager positions, guest referees and sideshows as the WWE continued to keep Austin in tow due to his immense popularity.

Now, rumors about his supposed match has come as a surprise considering his age and predicament. With Lesnar as an opponent, the chances of Austin suffering from permanent damage is a given.

Regardless Austin is not one to back down. Similar to how he was during his competitive years, the Rattlesnake is still confident he can dominate Lesnar despite the domination that the former UFC and WWE champion has shown on shows.

“If I was going to fight Brock Lesnar, I’d beat his ass” says Austin during an interview on the WWE Network with Paul Heyman.

Prior to the rumors of an Austin vs. Lesnar setto in Arlington, Texas next year, it was already believed that Austin would be present at the AT&T Stadium when Wrestlemania 32 kicks off on April 3, 2016.

After Wrestlemania 31 shattered attendance records, the next installment of the WWE’s annual extravaganza is touted to improve on this year’s performance.

To date, other rumored matches involving WWE legends include that of Triple H vs. The Rock (Dwayne Johnson), Sting vs. Undertaker and Hulk Hogan against a yet-to-be-named opponent.

There is no telling if the match will push through or if Vince McMahon would actually approve. Paul Heyman wants to make it happen but as far as Austin is concerned, he has one stipulation if the match prospers – a Texas Death Match.
