NBA players are saying that marijuana should be legalized.

TMZ Sports reported that 10 out of 10 active NBA stars believe that it is about time that the league legalizes the use of medicinal marijuana. The news surfaced after a new video of former NBA MVP Kevin Durant was found accidentally dropping a container of prescription marijuana.

Prescription weed has already been legalized in a number of states, so NBA players are stating that the NBA should allow its use as long as they are holding on to a legitimate prescription from a medical doctor. TMZ Sports asked 10 NBA players, who chose to stay anonymous, and they all answered that medicinal marijuana should be made legal by the NBA. The NBA is actually a pioneer in terms of league rules and could be the first to change its policy on weed, for the NFL and MLB to follow.

One player told TMZ, "How can you tell a guy with a prescription not to use it?? They should be allowed to have their medicine."

Another player said, "The NBA shouldn't advertise for it, but I don't see an issue if a player uses [with a prescription]."

The NBA Players Association responded by saying that the issue can be raised and discussed at the next collective bargaining session, to be held in 2017.

The Players Association said, "We represent the players' rights in their workplace. If this is an issue that membership feels strongly about, we would address it during CBA negotiations. This is a players' rights issue."

PSMag previously reported that it is relatively known that many NBA players smoke marijuana. Image management may be one of the factors that explain why the NBA attempts to curb its use by players. PSMag added that a basketball player who smokes pot does not have an edge over other players who do not. The league may simply be conforming to the requisites and status of being in the business of family entertainment.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Larry Sanders of the Bucks was suspended due to marijuana use but fervently defended his belief in its medicinal effects.

"It's something I feel strongly about, just to let you know something personal about me. I will deal with the consequences from it. It's a banned substance in my league. But I believe in marijuana and the medical side of it," Sanders said.

Perhaps the NBA may be ready to allow medicinal marijuana after they talk it over in 2017.
